Installation Steps
Follow these steps to install your custom neon sign
Complete Installation Guide: Every Wall Type
🟢 Drywall / Sheetrock
- Mark hole positions with a pencil and level
- Drill 6mm holes at your marks
- Tap in the included white plastic wall anchors
- Screw in the standoffs until snug (don't overtighten)
- Hang the sign on the standoffs
- Plug in and enjoy
👉 Rental tip: Use 3M Claw drywall hangers — holds 15kg, leaves only pin-sized holes.
🔵 Brick / Concrete / Masonry
- Mark hole positions
- Use a masonry drill bit (6mm) — a regular bit will burn out
- Drill slowly with steady pressure
- Tap in the included masonry anchors (the blue ones)
- Screw in standoffs
- Hang sign and plug in
⚠️ Safety: Wear eye protection when drilling brick/concrete.
🪟 Glass / Tile / Mirror
Do not drill. Use heavy-duty transparent double-sided tape or 3M VHB tape.
- Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol — must be completely dust-free and dry
- Apply tape strips vertically every 15cm (6″) on the backplate
- Press firmly for 30 seconds per strip
- Wait 2 hours before plugging in (tape reaches full bond strength)
- To remove: use dental floss to saw through the tape, then clean residue with Goo Gone
🪵 Wood / Paneling
- Mark positions and drill small pilot holes (3mm) — prevents wood splitting
- Screw standoffs directly into the wood
- Hang sign and plug in
No anchors needed — wood holds screws directly.
🌿 Outdoor Installation
All Y SIGNS signs are suitable for covered outdoor use (patio, porch, under awning). Not rated for direct rain/UV exposure without additional sealing.
- Choose a sheltered location (under eaves, covered patio)
- Use stainless steel screws (not the included standard screws — those are indoor only)
- Apply silicone sealant around mounting holes to prevent water ingress
- Use an outdoor-rated extension cord if needed, or hardwire to an outdoor junction box (electrician recommended)
- Remove and store indoors during extreme weather
